The equipment supplier Nokia Siemens Networks refines its Dual Carrier EDGE solution to allow EDGE networks to reach speeds of 592 Kbps, allowing uses previously reserved only for 3G.
In March 2008 that Nokia Siemens Networks had announced the development of an update of 2.75 G EDGE networks (see our dossier) to ensure a flow down twice, or 592 Kbps.
This development software, called Dual Carrier EDGE, is a first step before moving to EDGE Evolution, which should in turn offer speeds of 1 Mbps. The solutions to upgrade the 2G networks in relation to new needs.
2G networks have not said their last word
And equipment have just announced successful completion of the first call from a mobile Dual Carrier EDGE, confirming its next availability to mobile operators. This development is based on the standard 3GPP Release 7.
The Dual Carrier EDGE is a software solution, and therefore does not need to change the existing physical sites and, with his speed doubled, providing access to mobile uses that were reserved as 3G, as the possibility of advantage of the Mobile TV or uploading video clips on blogs.
Nokia Siemens Networks has made a specialty of EDGE networks, representing more than 280 networks in 17 countries and are used by 1.5 billion subscribers. Dual Carrier EDGE will provide greater continuity of service compared to 3G / HSPA operators.
